Directory submission checklist for AI tools

Prepare once, then submit fast. Use this list before your first directory submission and again before a launch day.

1. Your site

  • A live product page that explains what the tool does in one sentence.
  • A pricing page, even if it only says "free".
  • A privacy page and terms.
  • A way to try the tool or join a waitlist.
  • An email on your own domain; some directories reject free email addresses.

2. Texts

  • One sentence that starts with a verb: "turns meeting recordings into action items".
  • A tagline under 60 characters.
  • A short description (about 160 characters) and a long one (about 500 to 600).
  • Three features, each starting with a verb.
  • A maker comment: who you are, why you built it, what feedback you want.
  • Check lengths with the description length checker.

3. Images

  • Square logo, 512 × 512 PNG.
  • Three screenshots, 1270 × 760 or 1280 × 800.
  • Optional: a short demo video on YouTube.

4. Tracking

  • A UTM link per directory (build them with the UTM builder).
  • A sheet or tracker: site, date submitted, status, link type.
  • Calendar reminders to follow up after 7, 14 and 30 days.

5. After you submit

  • Check each approved listing: is the link there, and is it dofollow? Use the dofollow checker.
  • Keep pricing and descriptions current on every listing.
  • Check again after 30 days; links sometimes change or disappear.

Questions

How many directories should I submit to?

Quality beats volume. Start with 10 to 20 sites that fit your tool and give a real link or audience, then add more over a few weeks.

Should I use the same description everywhere?

No. Rewrite at least the first sentence for each site and respect each form's limits. Identical text everywhere gets ignored or rejected.

Is it safe to use bulk submission tools?

Bulk automated submissions often break directory rules and can create low-quality links. Submit one by one.

Submit to 65 places, not one

The Kit does most of this checklist for you. The Launch Kit gives you a hand-checked list of 65 places to submit an AI tool, with price, dofollow or nofollow, DR and the check date for each one. Describe your tool once and get a tagline, short and long description and maker comment for every site, cut to its limits, plus a one-week plan with reminders.
